Progress images from linework, value study, to final drawing for my latest piece, ‘Apricot Fizz’
Apr 3, 2025

Hey! I wanted to share this progression image of how I went from line drawing, to value study, and to the final piece.
Lately, I've been enjoying working digitally on my iPad for the initial sketch stage. Working digitally is extremely forgiving so it takes a lot of the pressure off when I'm still trying to find the composition and story of a new piece. For me, this very first stage takes the most brain power, so I like to try and make it as easy and low barrier as possible. Otherwise, I might start procrastinating and won't ever get myself to the final stage haha.
Once I'm pretty happy with the sketch, I also like to do a quick value study digitally too. This lets me plan out how I'm going to structure the piece when I get to rendering. It also helps me organize the steps I plan to take when starting the final piece.
I just took a rough photo of the final piece for this image, but I will share a nicer photo of it very soon!
