Hodgepodge

An old sketchbook page

Sharing an old sketchbook page.

This drawing actually started my whole hodgepodge style sketchbook series!

Unfortunately I'm a type of person who gets bored pretty easily so I was just experimenting and drawing completely random things in different styles that I liked. I would start on a line drawing of a girl in one corner, and then switch to maybe a realistic portrait, and then draw some random creatures in another part. All of them would be slightly unfinished and I started just bouncing around all of the different unfinished parts until they all slowly developed together. Eventually, I filled up the page with all of these random drawings. I was pleasantly surprised at how lively and fun the page looked like at the end!
I posted this drawing on instagram and immediately had someone dm me to purchase it. That doesn't happen too often so I thought maybe this could go somewhere.

I was invited to a fun group show at Giant Robot around the same time and thought it would be fun to do a whole show in this style, which is where my body of work for "Jjamppong" came from!

It's always a fun gamble to try new and different things, but I'm glad that I shared this when I did because it led to some really fun work!
